Introducing our Student Interns for 2010-2011
Welcome Lauren and Luke!
Luke Baehr:
Luke was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, a nice little break of city in the middle of Midwestern cornfields. His father, Jim Baehr, sells real estate in Des Moines following in the footsteps of his father and grand-father before him. Luke’s mother, Julia Beekman, is a police officer for a small Des Moines suburb. Luke’s younger sister, Hilary, graduated from college a year ago and works helping to relocate refugees from other countries in Des Moines.
Luke went to college in the small, and proudly Dutch, town of Pella, graduating from Central College, a school founded by the Reformed Church in America. To four years of high school football, Luke added two more years of college football at Central, praying quarterback for the JV squad. He dabbled in theater, mock trial, and choir. His Bachelors degree is in Philosophy and Political Science.
After working in Des Moines for two and a half years as a bank teller and assisting his father in the real estate business, Luke felt called to pursue theological studies at Princeton Theological Seminary, where he is now a Senior. Luke was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for four years before recognizing that his theology is more thoroughly Reformed. So he became a member of this congregation on Easter Sunday this past April and is now beginning the process of ordination in the RCA, with the intention of becoming a Minister of Word and Sacrament in the not-too-distant future. Luke is looking forward to the experience he will gain as a Student Intern at Six Mile Run this year.
Lauren Evans:
Lauren comes from southern California where she was raised in a congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA). After graduating from Bonita High School in La Verne, CA., Lauren attended Mt. San Antonio College until transferring to Concordia University, Irvine from where she graduated in 2008 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology with a minor in Writing. While in college she served as Teacher’s Assistant twice and after graduation she worked as a Substitute Teacher for a year. She has just completed her first year at Princeton Theological Seminary where she is now a Middler.
Lauren’s aim is to be ordained as a Presbyterian minister and has already secured the backing of the ruling board (the Session) of her local congregation and hopes to be received as an Inquirer by her Presbytery in January of 2011. Lauren began attending Six Mile Run last October and was amazed at how quickly it felt like home. Her newly-discovered passion for youth ministry inspired her to become involved with our YOUth Group earlier this year. Lauren is looking forward to expanding her service to Six Mile Run as a Student Intern and is eager for the lessons the experience will teach her in preparation for her future ministry.
