YOUth Group FAQ's

1.                    What is YOUth Group?
YOUth Group is a new ministry of Six Mile Run Reformed Church for the young people of the church.

2.                    What age group is YOUth Group for?
YOUth Group is for all students in 7th through 12th grades. Rising 7th graders are encouraged to get involved the summer before their 7th grade year.

3.                    Why is “YOU” capitalized in YOUth Group?
YOU is capitalized to encourage each individual to see themselves as vital to the group. Without YOU we aren’t even “the” Group.

4.                    Is YOUth Group just more Sunday School?
No. While both Sunday School and YOUth Group are important. They have very different focus and content. Sunday School is a time to look at the scripture of the day and see how it relates to modern life while YOUth Group focuses on teen issues.

5.                    Do I have to come to both Sunday School and YOUth Group?
No, but it is recommended as Sunday School lessons may come up in YOUth Group discussions, and vice versa.   Sunday School is at 10am from September through May.

6.                    What do you do during YOUth Group meetings?
Typically, YOUth group starts with sharing a free meal (typically pizza) with the Kids’ Group. Then we separate to play some sort of game and discuss a topic before rejoining the younger group to close in prayer.

7.                    When does YOUth Group meet?
During the school year we meet the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month from 4:30 to 6pm at the church. During the summer we meet once a month for events.

8.                    Does it cost anything to be part of YOUth Group?
In general, we try to keep everything free; however, sometimes larger events may require a small contribution.

9.                    What if I can’t afford the cost of an event or can’t get a ride?
Talk with Pastor Osy. Cost and transportation should never be factors in determining your participation.

10.               Can I bring my friends?
Absolutely! We encourage everyone to invite friends to all events. Just please make sure to tell an advisor beforehand so that your friends are included in accommodation planning (transportation, tickets, food, etc).

11.                Who can I contact with my other questions?
Carolyn Nuesch is the YOUth Group coordinator. She can be reached at either
267-235-0000 or CNuesch@yahoo.com or you can contact the church and someone will call you back.

The Youth Group at Six Mile Run is a vibrant ministry of the congregation led by our Student Intern, Maddy Patterson, and assisted by Carolyn Nuesch. Some of the parents are very helpful also but consistent adult advisors are still being sought.

The group involved children starting at 9 years of age (and for some activities their younger siblings are invited as well) and an younger and older section is slowly being created.

The groups meets twice a month from January to May in order to learn about God, life, and themselves. They do that through sharing a meal, playing games, discussing issues and praying together. They plan trips, service projects and other interesting events.
